FAST YOUR WAY TO WELLNESS

Whether you are religious or not, incorporating fasting into your daily routine can be an excellent way to improve your health. Fasting, like any other major lifestyle change, may be difficult to begin, but it will become easier on your body over time.

The sooner you begin fasting, the sooner you can reap the benefits of fasting.

You probably don’t need much of an explanation on what fasting is. But let’s go into the detail of how it affects our body.

HEALS YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

Have you ever noticed that when animals become ill, they stop eating?

Have you ever considered why this occurs?

This is a primal instinct to reduce stress on their internal systems and focus their energy on fighting the infection.

Humans are the only species that seeks food when we are ill, even when we do not require it.

Fasting triggers the regeneration of old cells within the body, including immune system cells, resulting in an improved immune system.

WEIGHT LOSS

When you fast, there is less food to convert into energy, your body is forced to start converting the stored fats into energy.  When compared to regular dieting, fasting is more effective at burning fat cells.

REGULATES BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS

As you fast, your body gradually relies on fat for energy rather than carbohydrates, reducing insulin production.

Fasting aids in the reduction of insulin resistance. This, in turn, can help your body become more sensitive to insulin, resulting in more stable blood sugar levels and fewer spikes.

IT'S ANTI-INFLAMMATORY

Chronic inflammation has been linked to an increased risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension & cardiovascular diseases.

Fasting for 12 hours on a regular basis may be enough to reduce inflammatory markers in your body.

FASTING IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEART

We already know that fasting can help lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes because people with diabetes are more likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases.

Fasting causes the body to burn some of the LDL cholesterol, which is a risk factor for developing heart disease, thus lowering the risk of developing heart disease.

BOOSTS YOUR BRAIN FUNCTION

When you fast, your brain enters survival mode, which increases your ability to focus on the tasks at hand.

Fasting causes an increase in the production of a protein known as brain-derived neurotropic factor (BDNF).  BDNF stimulates brain stem cells to differentiate into new neurons and activates several additional chemicals that promote neural health. This protein also shields your brain cells from the changes caused by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
