MILK, IS IT WORTH THE HYPE?

“Yes, milk is Mother Nature’s “perfect food”–for a calf, until the calf is weaned. Everything you know about cow’s milk and dairy is most likely a dairy industry MYTH.”

Each sip of the milk you drink contains growth hormones, fat, cholesterol, allergenic proteins, blood, pus, antibiotic, bacteria, viruses—which do what they are good at, create a mess out of our bodies!  Let us look at how the Indian dairy industry works to gain a better understanding of this.

INDIAN DAIRY INDUSTRY

Every commercial dairy industry around the world is cruel for the simple reason that cows do no produce milk all the time, they only do so, when they are pregnant in order to feed their calf. The dairy industry does not take a little milk from cows who naturally fall pregnant. No, cows are artificially inseminated every year for 6 to 7 years in a row so that they can produce more milk for us.

As soon as a cow stops yielding milk, they are sent to slaughterhouse.

Genetic manipulation, antibiotics and bovine growth hormones (BGH) are used to force each cow to produce more than 8000 lts of milk a year. In humans, BGH may also increase the risk of breast and prostate cancer.

If all these does not look like good enough reasons to limit or eliminate dairy from our life, let’s look at what it does to our body when consumed in excess

Broken Bones

Over time, drinking three or more glasses of milk per day may increase the risk of bone fractures in women.

Cancer

Several studies have linked consuming three or more servings of dairy to an increased risk of developing prostate and ovarian cancer

Lactose Intolerance

As infants, our bodies produce lactase, a digestive enzyme that breaks down lactose from mother’s milk. However, as we get older, many of us lose the ability to do so, resulting in significant digestive problems when drinking cow’s milk. By adulthood, approximately three-quarters of the world’s population is unable to digest lactose.

Cow’s milk contains lactose, which can be difficult for most adults to digest, resulting in nausea, cramps, gas, bloating, and diarrhoea.

Acne

Multiple studies have linked dairy products consumption to an increase in the prevalence and severity of acne in both boys and girls.

Antibiotic Resistance

Cows are frequently pumped full of antibiotics; this rampant overuse of antibiotics is to blame for the rise in antibiotic-resistant bacteria. When these bugs infect humans, antibiotics have a reduced effectiveness or, in the worst-case scenario, have no effect at all.

Let's see what are the alternatives to Dairy milk:

Soy milk, almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk, hemp milk, cashew milk, and rice milk are all dairy-free alternatives to regular cow’s milk.
